Amazing
Dreaming of Glory and Alex Shade
I kept the right ones out
And let the wrong ones in
Had an angel of mercy to see me through all my sins
There were times in my life
When I was goin' insane
Tryin' to walk through
The pain
It's Amazing
With the blink of an eye you finally see the light
It's Amazing
When the moment arrives that you know you'll be alright
It's Amazing
And I'm sayin' a prayer for the desperate hearts tonight

Glory threw his head and let out a whinny. He was unable to stand still, the colt was jumping out of his skin with excitement. His eyes seemed to bug out of his head wildly, he was certainly wound up today, as a matter of fact, he’d been like this all week. The colt was dying for every workout and it had certainly showed, he’d been putting up bullet works every day all week. The colt had never looked stronger, he looked to be sitting on something of a huge run.
His hide twitched with every touch of Steve’s hand as he finished tightening the cinch, on Glory’s saddle.
Glory had been known all season as the horse who underperformed. His pedigree was beautiful and he certainly was expected to do big things but as of right now, he didn’t really live up to the big names in his pedigree. However, that could all change anytime soon.
Glory was headed straight for the biggest race all season, the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Call team Grayson Meadows crazy for even considering putting him in a race with the top dogs of the dirt router division of any age group. Some said it was like throwing him to the dogs and he had no chance at all of winning. They may be right, they could be wrong, Glory’s chances of winning the classic were very slim. Glory had a so-so season and certainly sending him to the classic wasn’t the best decision but the classic, but the experience that would be gained from the classic would largely benefit him if he came across the wire in first or last.
Glory continued to twitch and his eyes burned with the desire to stretch his legs out and just run. Steve finished putting on Glory’s bridle and adjusted the browband and noseband. Glory’s nose began to twitch as he started to grunt and whinny again.
“Yeah, I know boy, you’ll be out and running in a few minutes,” Steve patted the colt as he said so and walked him out of his stall. Alex walked down and Steve gave him a leg up on the jumpy chestnut.
Glory had be purchased because Grayson Meadows lacked dirt three year olds, and colts. However, after his first race Tanner had taken it upon himself to figure out just why this Hall of Fame bred colt was underperforming as much as he was. It didn’t take long before he decided that the colt simply wasn’t trying. He was lazy and would rather just go through the motions of jogging and returning to his stall to eat. Retirement had been an option, but the colt had never been given the real chance to show what he could do. The real issue was that Glory had been so beaten down that he wasn’t confident in himself. So, he decided that the colt wasn’t giving it his all in every workout or every race. This conclusion led to the decision to post four horses around the track to push Glory every step of the way, when one horse tired the next fresh horse would start off on Glory and push him faster. The method made Glory flourish, his workout times improved in just days and his confidence bloomed he’d won two races since and put up two very impressive second places in horse of the year races. Along with his workout times improving he did happen to jog around 1 1/2 or 2 miles dailey. Say that the work was vigorous, that there was no way the horse wasn’t tired after all of that on a regular basis, but he wasn’t. Nothing could slow glory down now, nothing.
So Glory didn’t work like your average horse. His workouts were really something of a sight to see, he drew quite the crowd this morning as well, many people wondering what was with the quarter horses stationed at at each quarter pole.
Glory jumped with excitement and yanked hard on the bit at the sight of the gate. He worked up quite a sweat but that never seemed to interfere with his running. His growing muscles bulged and were more prominent than ever in the daylight. Glory looked stunning to say the least, his bright copper coat gleamed in the daylight. The stripe upon his forehead was snow white and stood out against his hard features. Glory looked nothing short of sensational.
Glory pranced through his warmup like it was nothing and loaded into the gate without an issue. He flew from it gracefully like a gazelle. His legs flew over the dirt and he gobbled it up quickly approaching Hadley on the Chestnut Quarter horse everyone called Chester.
Hadley sent Chester early to see if Glory would be able to catch them and it was a challenge Glory happily accepted, he dug his heels in and tore off after Chester and Hadley. He quickly caught up and got his head ahead of Chester and Hadley and they battled for every inch they could get. Glory’s ears flopped around as if Chester was pushing him hard enough and Alex stifled a laugh.
Andrew sat ready on his mount, a dark bay quarter horse who was a towering 17 hands. His name was Small, for obvious reasons his name didn’t quite fit him but it didn’t really matter. Andrew pushed Small into a canter and then they were off at a brisk gallop. Hadley pulled Chester up and Glory took off after Small. Small was certainly one of the quests of the bunch but that never stopped Glory from running at him guns blazing.
The Classic was pace heavy and closer heavy, if they were going to even be in the money they were going to need to play this one smart. Eternal Phantom wasn’t a horse you messed with just for the fun of it, either she was going to fire straight to the lead or sit back and run down the stretch at 100 miles per hour, and she wouldn’t be alone, she’d be accompanied by Nightshade and GS Super Charged. Red Herring would be bombarding Glory for every step and stride he took. However, if his way of working proved anything right now, it was that being pushed constantly wouldn’t even bother him because he was used to it. Then there was just holding off a closer, which could prove to be his downfall but unlike a lot of front runners, Glory had the turn of foot of a strong closer. If Eternal Phantom decided she wanted that lead, Glory was going to give it to her, but he was going to stay at her shoulder and ride it out until the stretch came.
Small continued to press Glory and Glory continued to flop his ears until he saw Jessie take off on the bay horse ahead of them named Blaze. Glory’s ears perked and he dug in to go catch Blaze. His lengthened his stride and pulled on the bit begging Alex for more run and Alex let him have it. Glory strode after Blaze and quickly caught him in a matter of seconds. They dueled for the lead and Glory stuck his tongue out and let it flop out of the side of his mouth. He had one ear perked at Alex the other over at Blaze and Jessie as the pair continued their duel through the final turn. Alex could see Tanner on the grey quarter horse everyone called Frost. Word was he was quite the race horse back in his day. Glory flicked his ears towards them and picked up his speed, Alex could feel him waiting to full out sprint when they reached the homestretch.
Tanner sent Frost early, they’d decided in case Glory happened to be behind he’d need to be ready to run at something. Glory forgot about Blaze and Jessie and he focused his energy on catching Frost. The only thing he could see of the grey right now was his rear end. Alex cut Glory loose and Glory came down on Frost with everything he had, he dug his heels into the dirt and pushed off each of his powerful legs, gaining more ground with every stride. It was amazing watching Glory gobble up and every foot of Frost’s five length lead and sprint past the grey like he was standing still and drawing off to win by three lengths. Glory was ready, and win or lose, this horse was still a champion in the making.
